It's Easy as a 1-2-3!
Step 1) Choose your color palette
For spring/summer and fall/winter, here are the color palettes we recommend. You can choose one palette and have everyone that will be pictured choose a different color. If it's a bigger group, you can have a couple people wear the same color, but make sure everyone is matching in the same white tops. Coordinated and not matching is the key to pick the best colors to photograph well on camera.
Step 2) Add texture, layers, or patterns depending on the season
First rule to follow with texture and patterns is to keep the slogans and images on clothing at home. Solids are always a good way to go. Once most solids are used for each color, you can have someone or a couple people in patterns that coordinate with the color palette.
Layers are good for fall and winter seasons while spring and summer you may not want many layers on. Same goes for long sleeve and short sleeve clothes. If it's an outdoor summer session, make sure everyone is dressed for the season with no long sleeves on and vice versa if it's winter no short sleeves on while everyone else is bundled up.
Patterns can be a lovely compliment to the overall look of the outfits, but make sure the pattern isn't too bright and overpowering. We want you to be the focus of your portraits.
Step 3) Try on prior to your session date!
This tip is vital to everything falling into place as we've had many clients aka mamas tell us they had to do a last minute Target run to find looks that fit! Don't wait to try on the nice looks you ordered and worked hard to find. Try them on everyone that will be in the pictures as soon as they come in. That way if you need a Target run, it can be on a different day so you're not rushing to find clothes before rushing to the session.
We hope these tips are helpful and take away any stress of preparing your looks for your portrait session! If you've booked a session with us, we help coordinate all of this with you if requested. We love coordinating and enjoy finding looks that you'll love!
